The memory of Lanyu
A pop-up art book of memory.
In 2016, during my travels to Lanyu, I created an illustration series depicting undersea life, goatherds, and fishing boats with flying fish. Inspired by pop-up book artist Colette Fu, I utilized paper engineering skills to reproduce my works. The main challenge lay in capturing the dynamic movements of the flying fish and fishing boat. In the original paintings, only one side of the boat was visible, but in the pop-up version, the entire vessel is revealed. Special techniques were employed to convey motion, allowing lifelike Nrig fish to leap from beneath the clouds as the page is turned, creating a captivating scene of nighttime aquatic activity.
